Lessons from Burundi

It has been a crazy week at work, and I can't believe we're leaving for Cameroon in nine days.  I was overwhelmed this morning: the list of new consults was piling up, clinic was behind schedule, and I knew I was missing Noah's last doctor visit.  I rushed over to clinic to see a refugee family from Burundi, knowing the visit would not be brief.

As I dialed up interpreter services, asking for the Kurundi language, I paused to look at the father and his young son.  I was instantly and profoundly struck by the great blessing of caring for others.  And I knew that my complaining should stop.  I told them that I was traveling to Cameroon, and they smiled silently.  I am thankful for this small moment.
