Our weekend in Cameroon

It has been a busy two days for us here at Mbingo. When we woke up on Saturday morning, we discovered a huge plate of homemade pancakes and maple syrup care of Kara Beth. We enjoyed it on the lawn overlooking the hillsides of Mbingo. We walked up to the hospital and met her good friend, Comfort, who measured me and Noah for traditional Cameroonian outfits with Blessing's help (above).

We then walked down to the local embroidery shop and market, buying a few souvenirs and running out of money for anything useful! Noah enjoyed seeing all of the Fulani men ride in on their horses. Between the roosters, cows, goats, and horses, he hasn't noticed the absence of giraffes and elephants in this part of Cameroon. Maybe next time!

Noah made friends with some of the children from the school for the deaf after lunch. He set off for some of the nearby staff homes with the two of them close behind. He "helped" some of the women till the earth with his bamboo stick, and he confidently marched into someone's hut. He continues to wake up calling for "Outside! Walking!" no matter the time of day.

We had another breakfast outside this morning before heading off to church. Clapping our hands and dancing to the traditional African music, I was overcome by the blessing of being here with my family. Noah laughed and shook his hands in the air; the choir sang a song about Noah's ark in one of the tribal languages.

We finished out the day with some playtime in the backyard with the local kids. Noah was excited to watch the big boys on the trampoline, and he reluctantly shared his cups in the sandbox. Before night fall, we took a long hike up into the hills. Jeff had some pork and potatoes simmering on the crock pot, and we were thankful for a long and fulfilling weekend in a place not unlike home.

Hey!

I've been reading your blog - siunds like things are going great in Cameroon! Give KB my love! :)

Seems like a while since we've talked - sort of like you may have had some news that I didn't hear about until you were across the world in Africa and blogging. :)

Stay safe!

Thanks for these updates, guys. I love reading about how much Noah is loving Africa! The hat he is wearing in these pics is so cute I can't take it!

Liz, I want you to know, U2 just opened the Grammy Awards with their new song, and it was fabulous. I was giggling it was so awesome. Bono looked amazingly cool as usual, and the Edge and Larry were dreamy as well. If you haven't heard the new song yet, you will love it. The new video is now up on u2.com. Love you all and miss you!
